Killmaster's rebellious side

We don't know how this man does it, but along with touring with Kaizers Orchestra and preparing the new album, he is the frontman of the reunited Norwegian band Skambankt. And this is their message to the world:

The past years have been marked by surveillance, capitalimperalism, corruption and religious fanatasim. Skambankt is going to get even with that now. Skambankt's goal is to work against a sick society steered by those who are corrupt and mad for power. The people should be given back the state power through music and action. Skambankt wants to wake the grandiosa-generation from their deep slumber.[...] Our Christian cultural chaos must end here. Our lives must not be controlled by the power of the capital. Skambankt can shamelessly call themselves the only true Norwegian punkrock-band, and want to take back punk-music from the superficial MTV idiots and give the kids the realy stuff. Skambankt is the sound of uprising, chapped lips, broken noses, bleeding knuckels and broken ribs. If people are not beaten physically, then at least they should be truely beaten into thinking with the help of music and words.[...]

Rebels with a cause or "The May 4th Movement"

Skambankt in Oslo - 04.05.2004

Punkrock today: take a bunch of pimply highschool teens, put them into cool skatewear, get them some nose and lip piercings plus a stylish haircut, tattoo them from neck to toe and have them sing songs about stupid teachers and conformist teenagers. Allow them to say "suck" or "fuck" at times and put "Parental Advisory" stickers on their CDs. That's exactly when Skambankt stand up and shout: "No way!" For they want real high-standard punkrock with brains! That was what their first concert in the course of their "Reformatour" in the Oslo alternative joint "Garage" showed us.
Terje Vinterstø, aka the guitarrist "Killmaster" in Kaizers Orchestra, is the frontman and leader of the gang of four. The political background of the show was underlined by the musicians wearing clothes reminding of communist uniforms. Besides Terje had an additional microphone that made his announcements and slogans sound distorted and more inflammatory. There was nothing left of the nice Killmaster guy one is used to see on Kaizers Orchestra concerts. In the front stood an angry man who yelled out all his wrath and frustration. And he is, I must say, a really good shouter! His voice sounds gruff and powerful, while the music is straight, speedy Motörhead inspired Punk'n'Roll . Skambankt's lyrics are first of all in Norwegian, and secondly critical and commited. Titles such as "Me Sa Nei", "Aggresjonens Aggregat", "Systemets Makt", "Politistat" and "Kapitalens Spell" make one immediately think of Marx and Orwell. The lyrics are miles apart from being lalala-wannabe-Punkpop lyrics in the style of Blink 182 or Good Charlotte, who use critisism - if at all - as a strategic commercial means to be hip and trendy.
The "Garage" wasn't really packed but the concert kicked ass anway, because the musicians gave their very best. Whether they are ever going to play abroad is a good qustion, but after all, it is nice to know that bands like Skambankt do exist. Viva la revolución! Shirin
